So you might be asking, ‘What is ACT LOCAL?’
Well, think of us as a TOOL to help you get involved in your local community, in a way that suits your talents, interests and lifestyle. Our focus is on the Wheatbelt and Pilbara regions. We offer personalised help with:
- Connecting you with other community members who have similar interests
- Connecting you with active citizenship opportunities that suit your lifestyle (the opportunities range from tiny time commitments, to more regular involvement with community and social groups, and other Volunteer Involving Organisations [VIOs])
- Ideas for getting involved (we’re currently compiling tons of resources to help! For example- check out this booklet of 20 Quick Wins for inspiration.)
- Placemaking education (from small to big ideas to make your ‘place’ thrive!)
- Education and Training for using your unique gifts to strengthen your community and grow your network. (Coming soon!)
- And so many other Active Citizenship resources! (Stay Tuned)
- One of our favourite reads is Perth is Ok! Local DOERS, you can read about them HERE.
Please fill out the questionnaire at the end of the page, to help us connect with you. But for now….
Let’s meet some community members that may be just like you!

Meet Amy, she moved to town just a month ago, on her own. Amy has a diverse set of skills! She would love to learn more about the history of her new town and make a few friends.
Meet Karen, she is a fabulous young woman with cerebral palsy, and often feels like people may be scared to talk to her about her disability, but they couldn’t be more wrong! She is great at organising a group of people and is a street art lover!
Meet Jan and Steve, they are the proud parents of Alex, who loves playing basketball Alex’s parents are keen to meet other parents who have kids who also play and want to get involved with the sport in some capacity.

Meet Jack, he is 5 time state chess champion. He’s also done wood working for 15 years as a hobby. While he teaches science at the local high school, he would love to be teaching others about chess or wood working!
Meet Emily, she has been a stay at home mum for the last ten years, and wants to return to work, but she is lacking recent work experience. She is also a bit worried about her confidence in interviewing.
Meet Miles, he is a recently retired farmer and finding he has lots of time on his hands and feeling a bit isolated. He would like to meet some new people and be more involved with his community.
Meet Jim, he has recently graduated from University and has just moved back to his hometown. He’s having trouble finding work in his field, as he has no local references.
All these community members have something in common, they all have the potential to become active in their local area in a way that benefits both themselves, and their communities! Read on to see how you can…
Get Involved

We here at ACT LOCAL partner with many different non-profit groups in both the Wheatbelt and Pilbara regions. These groups offer a wide range of Active Citizenship connection, we call them VIOs (volunteer involving organisations).
There is no limit to the types of VIOs for Active Citizens. You can even start one based on your interests!
It’s a great way to:
- meet new people
- develop new skills
- get active
- simply give back to the community!
Types of VIOs

Please click HERE for a list of community/social groups, and other VIOs near you.
You can search by the above categories, including filters for your town!
Donate your time…
If you’re an Active Citizen interested in donating your time, there are flexible opportunities to do this!
You might consider helping out just as a one off for an event or busy bee.
VIOs often need people to help with their initiatives/projects and these opportunities can give you chances to connect with others, share your talents, grow your network of friends, and help strengthen your community.

Please fill in our short questionnaire to help us personalise your experience in connecting you with others in your community based on your interests, talents, and lifestyle.
